The meeting dedicated to 125th anniversary of the Department of Biological Anthropology, Eötvös Loránd University.


The Congress will be held at the Campus of Faculty of Science, situated in Buda, on the river-side of Danube 31 August – 3 September, 2006.

All EAA Members and others interested in participating are very welcome to join us in Budapest for the 15th Congress of the European Anthropological Association.

GENERAL INFORMATION


The Congress will be held - except the opening ceremony - on the campus of the Faculty of Science, Eötvös Loránd University (Pázmány P. sétány 1/c, 1117 Budapest, see "Map of the Campus").
The schedule of the Scientific Program is outlined on site Programme. All sessions take place in the Auditorium Bolyai (0.821), Auditorium Szabó (0.803), and Auditorium Lóczy (0.804) of Building C of the campus (see the map of Building C). Each presentation has been assigned a number (in square brackets) and this number is used in the day-to-day scheduling of events.
A capital S beside the presentation number denotes a student's contribution.

and in the Foyer on the ground floor, from 08.00 on September 1-3.

Messages for delegates during the Congress may be left at the Registration/Information Desk, or by telephone on 36 20 355.70.36, or by fax at 36 1 381.21.61. The congress notice board can be found next to the Registration/Information Desk.

Opening Events
The venue of the Opening Events will be in the Main Building, Eötvös Loránd University, Egyetem tér 1-3, 1053 Budapest (in the heart of the City, near the metro station "Astoria" of the Red Line (M2) or the metro stations "Kálvin tér" or "Ferencziek tere" of the Blue Line (M3).
Opening events will start at 18:30, August 31. Please, be sure to take along the Invitation card to the Opening Ceremony and wear the badge.

Plenary sessions
The plenary sessions are held every morning in the Auditorium Bolyai János (0.821) on the ground floor. The general theme of the congress is "Man and Environment: Trends and Challenges in Anthropology" and the invited lectures will focus on human evolution, methods of the genetic profile of populations and of screening for health and disease, further on new perspectives and challenges in theoretical and applied anthropology. Each plenary presentation has been allotted 30 minutes (there is no time for discussion).

Oral presentations
Time is limited to 10 minutes with additional 5 minutes for discussion. Facilities for presenting slides, overhead and computer projections are available. Everybody is kindly requested too strictly keep to this speaking time - chairpersons are instructed to interrupt the presenters when the 10 minutes are over.
All speakers should take their presentation devices (floppy, CD, pen-drive, transparency, and/or slide) to the Presentation Device Desk next to the Registration/Information Desk between 8:00 and 9:00 hours on the given session day. Presentation devices will be brought to the session room by the members of the staff. Previewing is available in the session room 30 minutes before the beginning of the session. Speakers are requested to collect their presentation devices immediately after the session.

Poster presentations
All posters will be displayed throughout Congress time, i.e. from September 1 through 3. Posters are displayed in the foyer (ground floor, Building C) before the lecture theatres under the appropriate section headings.
The size of poster panel is 80 by 100 cm, width/length. All posters should be mounted between 8:30 and 14:00, September 1. Posters are supposed to be taken down between 12:00 and 14:00, September 3.
Presenters should report to the Registration desk where they will be advised on the location of their poster. The date and time given below for poster sessions is when presenters should stand near their poster for discussion with the participants.

Prize awarded for best student presentation
To conform to Ruling 5/6 ("During the EAA congress there will be a contest for
the best student paper and poster") the Organising Committee of the 15th
Congress of the EAA notifies the registered students that

only student posters and papers the first author of which registered as a
student will be eligible for jury rating (all student contributions bear an "S"
mark, be they oral or poster presentations)
in order to take part in the contest for the best poster/paper
- oral contributors are expected to submit three copies in A4 form of their full
text inclusive of illustrations and references, etc.;

 

- poster contributors are expected to submit three copies in A4 form of their
poster at the registration desk of the congress at the time of their registering.

EAA meetings
Board Meeting for Board Members: Department of Biological Anthropology, 14:00-15:00, August 31.
Council Meeting for Council Members: Auditorium Szabó (0.803) at lunchtime, September 1.
General Assembly for all EAA members: Auditorium Bolyai (0.821), 16:15-17:30, Sunday, September 3.
Your presence at the General Assembly is more than welcome. The Prizes for the Students' Best Poster and Best Oral Presentation will be awarded on this occasion.

Registration Confirmation and Badges
Participation certificates, receipts on the fees paid and badges will be handed out at registration. Precondition of admission to all scientific sessions is wearing the badge. Badges will be checked so they should be worn at all scientific and social events.

Coffee breaks and Lunches
Free coffee and tea with various desserts will be served for the registered participants with a white badge in the foyer area near the auditoriums. See the programme schedule please for the details since break times vary from day to day.
Lunch will be served in the area before the Museum. Free lunch tickets will be provided in the registration bag of the participants that had paid their full/student registration fees. Lunch tickets at 15 € can also be purchased at the Registration/Information desk.

*For the programme on September 1 the route of bus transfer is Building C - Parliament - Budafok Szőlészeti Tangazdaság (Educatory Vineyard Budafok) - Building C.
Buses start at 16:30 sharp from the Duna side of Building C, so those wanting to attend have to be there at 16:15.

**The banquet will be served in the Aula of the Faculty of Science, Building B on the campus of the Faculty. An invitation card is in your credentials.

Be sure to wear your badge at all social events, please.
At the Visit to the Parliament Building, you may have to queue up and wait for security checks are obligatory to enter the Building, and you may be requested to show your badge to enter.
